Healthy Eating for a Healthy Weight | Srirupa Karar

There are plenty of healthy eating options which helps in maintaining healthy weight. One can add various colours to the platter which makes food more interesting. Foods which are colourful and are also rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals which includes leafy vegetables, tomatoes, green peas, oranges, beet root, etc. There are many additionals that can be added on like omelette, onions, peppers etc. 
In order to maintain a healthy diet there are some changes that are to be brought in the diet plan. Fat free products, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and low fat milk products should be consumed more in quantity. Greater emphasis should be given on nuts, eggs, fish, lean meat, etc. However the regular intake of calorie should not be ignored and a proper balanced diet should be maintained. 

Fruits:

Adding fruits to the diet plan is a great start. However, one must not forget that the fruits are fresh, many times canned fruits or the ones which are frozen can also be used. One must only stick to fruits such as apples, there are plenty of choices like papaya, pineapple, kiwi, oranges etc. There are many fruits which are seasonal and are not available throughout the year in such a case canned fruits or frozen fruits can be used. Dried fruits generally contain sugar syrups and hence should be avoided. 

Vegetables: 

Vegetables can be consumed in many ways, some can be consumed raw, some vegetables have to be cooked, processed or boiled before consumption. Some vegetables can be processed partially which means they can be fried partially with a very minimal amount of oil. Canned vegetables can also be used which are very similar to canned fruits, the canned vegetables are to be heated up before using. 

Food Rich in Calcium: 

Meats:

Meats are generally very heavy and contain lots of calories. There are many other ways of having meat which are in turn very healthy. Meat can either be grilled or baked. There are many recipes online which will help you in making meat with fewer calories which is more beneficial for a healthy body as compared to the general meat. 

A Healthy Balanced Diet does not mean that you prohibit eating your favourite dish. You should also have your favourite dish even if the high is high in calories or contains extra added fats. The trick is to eat your favourite dish not regularly but once in a while only. Healthy foods should be consumed more and there should also be some physical activity in order to maintain healthy weight. 

Some extra tips for a healthy body: 

  • Eating your favourite food daily or frequently is a big no no as the extra fat will not allow you to maintain a healthy weight, eating your comfort food should be cut down to once in a while. 
  • In case your comfort foods contains chocolate bar then the amount of consumption has to be reduced for example if earlier you used to have a couple of bars then currently only a bar would do or a half of it. 
  • The ingredients that you use to prepare your food should not contain high calories. For example while using dairy products try using low fat milk, cheese, butter etc and try using more fresh vegetables. Also note that the portion size should also be maintained. 

Final Thoughts

The idea is to eat healthy and be healthy in order to maintain a healthy weight, your comfort food is something which should not be prohibited completely. However, you should know where to give a full stop.
