How Can food habits impact our health? Srirupa Karar

The food that we consume provides the right amount of nutrients and minerals to the body which helps the body to function properly. If the food consumed is not a balanced diet then the same food might be injurious to the health and eventually, our health starts declining.

In case the food that we consume is huge in quantity then the body doesn’t function properly and has many drawbacks which include being overweight, underweight and also lead to many chronic diseases such as heart diseases, diabetes, etc. It is very important to keep a keen eye on what we are eating as the health of the body is easily determined by what we eat and in what quantity.

The nutrients that the food contains helps our body to function properly, which is why we know that the nutrients derived from the food we eat are essential for the cells for them to function properly. Nutrients are essential for a body in every sphere of life as it helps the body in the maintenance of the functions of the body, growth of the human body and its development. If the body doesn’t get the right nutrients, then the body fails to function efficiently. There should be a break-even point where the actual needs of nutrients meet the actual intake of nutrients in order to keep the functions of the body smooth. In case the same doesn’t meet then the cells are able to function properly.

Nutrients are the only source that directs our body to work, nutrients are one which feeds information to the body, and if the nutrients don’t provide the right information to the body, it fails to perform physically. It is very important to know what food items are to be included in your daily meal rather than knowing what food items are to be excluded in order to stay healthy. Food also helps us in fighting with various chronic diseases and not only keeps our body healthy and fit. It is not necessary that a balanced diet means fruits and vegetables only, many times it has been observed that the daily intake of food does not provide the right proportion of vitamins and minerals that is required for a healthy body to function properly, in such a case a nutrition expert is to be consulted in order to know the correct food along with the correct portion size.

There are numerous chronic diseases which include strokes, heart attacks, cancer, diabetes etc that are generally caused due to irregular diet or due to diet which doesn’t provide or feed in the correct information because of which the body fails to function effectively. The diet that is taken on a regular basis should be of low fat or fat-free as consuming food that is rich in calories is not at all recommended for a healthy body. Nuts, almonds, dairy products that are fat-free, fish, eggs, meat which are lean, etc should be added to the meal in order to make it healthier.

Final Thoughts

High consumption of various food items like meats that are processed, beverages with added extra sugar, red meat which is unprocessed, excessive consumption of sodium often leads to various diseases and even in some cases leads to death. Maintaining a healthy diet is very important in order to avoid chronic diseases. Adding fruit like orange, kiwi, banana, guava, papaya, pineapple, vegetables like leafy vegetables, carrot, potatoes, tomatoes, nuts, almonds, seafoods will help us to maintain a healthy diet which in turn helps us in keeping our body fit and healthy.
